My boys KoRn! Munky, Fieldy, JD, Head, Ray
Blabbermouth reporting Korn guitarist James ‘Munky’ Shaffer tells U.K.’s Metal Hammer magazine: “We have Corey [Taylor] singing on one track and it’s going to be a fan favorite because he really lets loose.”
“On a heaviness scale of one to ten, with ten being the 1994 self-titled, this album is a definite nine,” Munky said. “When Head came back to us on the last record, it was our way of getting the wheels greased. Now everything is well-oiled and the machine works really well. When Head and I start writing riffs together, we have this endless stream of creativity — we’re like Korn’s yin and yang.”
Welch recently told hardDrive Radio about Korn‘s upcoming album: “I would definitely describe the new Korn music as intense. Every song, I think, is a live song. And so it’s gonna be hard to choose which ones we play live, because that’s how the whole record’s written. And Jonathan [Davis] just… He always digs deep and shares painful stuff, but I feel like he grabbed his soul and ripped it open for this record again, like he used to do, and people are gonna feel that.”
Korn will hit the road this fall for the “Nocturnal Underground Tour” where they will share co-headlining duties with Breaking Benjamin and will be joined by special guests Motionless In White and Silver Snakes.
The “Nocturnal Underground” arena tour will kick off on Sep 24 at Scheels Arena in Fargo, ND, taking Korn deep into the heart of America through late Oct. On this trek, the band will pass through such markets as Omaha, Cedar Rapids, Charlotte, Biloxi, Tampa, Jacksonville, Tulsa and beyond. In between, Korn will appear at Sonic Boom Oct 01 and at Louder Than Life in Louisville, KY on Oct 2. I know Lou Brutus will be at Sonic Boom, and I may just have to get my butt up there too I think! KORN!
William DuVall of Alice In Chains and Giraffe Tongue Orchestra
Alice In Chains singer/guitarist William DuVall said in a new interview with Kansas City radio station KQRC he’s still working on two separate documentaries that he’s been producing and directing over the last few years. The first one, All Alone Together: Neon Christ And Atlanta Hardcore, is about Atlanta’s hardcore punk scene. He said, “We’re still working on it. It’s one of those things where, when a movie’s being made by a committee, you’re trying weigh in a lot of different people’s feelings and emotions. That’s one thing. And then also, obviously, funding a documentary is no joke. But, yeah, we’re still doing it for sure. And it’s definitely gonna happen.”
DuVall, who first broke out of the Atlanta scene with his band Neon Christ, said that the documentary would focus on “the really underground, the basement-show kind of punks, the people who keep it grass roots even today. What are their struggles now, with the Internet and with punk having been assimilated into the mass culture and all of that.”
The second film is a look at the of jazz musician Milford Graves, whom DuVall described as “one of the greatest musicians ever.” He said about that project, “I’ve self-funded that film for all of these years, and I’ve just been waiting for the ending. And the ending, I think I may have figured it out. But it involves going over and shooting in Europe and things like that. So we’re gonna get that done.”
Alice In Chains just wrapped the first five shows on Guns N’ Roses‘ current North American stadium tour, and is now on a headlining trek of its own that next stops at Cadott, Wisconsin’s Rock Fest on Friday (Jul 15th). Lou Brutus will be on hand to interview the band there!
Although it was reported earlier this year that Alice In Chains was working on a follow-up to its 2013 album The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here, DuVall recently said it was “too early” for the band to be recording new music and that those discussions would begin in the fall.
William helped found the controversial hardcore punk group Neon Christ in 1983, with the band becoming his first major musical project. He played in other bands including Madfly and No Walls before forming Comes With The Fall in 1999. That group recorded several CDs and EPs and toured on its own, while also moonlighting Alice In Chains guitarist Jerry Cantrell‘s solo backing band. DuVall joined the reunited Alice In Chains in 2006, four years after the 2002 death of vocalist Layne Staley. He has recorded two studio albums with the band to date.
