Image Group LA/ABCGreen Day has teamed up with film distributor Abramorama to bring the film Turn It Around: The Story of East Bay Punk to North American theaters this summer. The movie, which the punk trio executive-produced, will launch in conjunction with the band’s U.S. summer Revolution Radio tour that kicks off in August.
As its title suggests, Turn It Around is about the birth of the punk scene in California’s East Bay region of the San Francisco Bay area.
“Turn It Around gave us the opportunity to tell the story of the East Bay punk rock scene, a scene that’s a sacred thing to me, [bassist] Mike [Dirnt] and [drummer] Tré [Cool] and to a lot of others who were there at the founding and who helped to shape the genre,” says frontman Billie Joe Armstrong in a statement. “We’re proud to bring the history of this movement to the world and hope the film inspires people to create their own music and to build an artistic community.”
The film is narrated by none other than Iggy Pop, and features interviews with Armstrong, Metallica‘s Kirk Hammett, Guns N’ Roses bassist Duff McKagan, Rancid‘s Tim Armstrong, and Bikini Kill‘s Kathleen Hanna.
