The New York Yankees’ 2023 season opened with a G note.
Ahead of their opening game against the San Francisco Giants, the baseball team shared a season hype video soundtracked by My Chemical Romance‘s “Welcome to the Black Parade,” which caught the attention of MCR guitarist and Yankees fan Frank Iero.
“Waking up today to see the mighty NY @yankees using ‘Black Parade’ in their opening day hype video was a dream come true!” Iero writes in an Instagram post.
“I have such amazing memories of going to games as a kid with my dad and my grandpop,” he continues. “I can just feel my grandfather smiling down on me, proud as can be, shouting ‘Let’s go Yanks!'”
We can only assume that the power of My Chem’s 2006 opus inspired the Yankees’ Opening Day performance, since they won the game 5-0.
