HBO debuts original documentary ‘Counting Crows: Have You Seen Me Lately?’

HBO is releasing the original documentary  ‘Counting Crows: Have You Seen Me Lately?’ as part of the new installment of the Music Box series created by Bill Simmons. The Music Box series, which debuted on HBO in 2021, is a collection of documentary films exploring pivotal moments in the music world.

The documentary examines the band’s experience with sudden fame in the 1990s, delving into the pressures on frontman Adam Duritz and his mental health, as well as his efforts to maintain artistic integrity.  The film uses interviews and never-before-seen footage to tell the story, providing an intimate and unflinching look at the band’s journey.

The film also explores the emotional aftermath of the band’s landmark studio album debut, August and Everything After, and the pressures and creative process of making their follow-up album, Recovering the Satellites. Featured participants in the documentary include Counting Crows band members Duritz, David Bryson, Charlie Gillingham, David Immerglück, Matt Malley, and Dan Vickrey; friends and peers including Chris Martin, Mary-Louise Parker, Cyndi Lauper, Jeff Ross, and Steve Kerr; music historian Rob Harvilla; and writer David Wild.

‘Counting Crows: Have You Seen Me Lately?’ is directed by Amy Scott, and debuts on Thursday, December 18th at 9 pm ET/PT on HBO and will be available to stream on HBO Max.
